Developing while Black

Living with OBDS (only black developer syndrome), is a light collection of advice gained from many years of working within mainly white organisations. It features anecdotal stories, from over 20 years of development experience. Greg uses humour to outline techniques for survival in mainly white environments such as; interpreting smiles, countering imposter syndrome, misappropriation of credit and spotting allies/issues. Greg reviews his own failures and wins from the perspective of a person with many years living with OBDS.

Bio

I’m owner of a data consultancy and an experienced polyglot developer in big data and machine learning. I specialise in deep learning, and I’m currently looking at ways to integrate online reinforcement and attention based models into corporate pipelines. On the side I enjoy functional programming and community based teaching of IT, fitness and meditation.
