How image recognition is changing ecommerce and healthcare
In the coming years, it will become increasingly common for product search to begin with an image upload. This is enabled by advancements in tablet and phone cameras coupled with more available and faster Wi-Fi networks.
My intention is that the audience will leave with a deeper understanding of how visual imaging is currently being used and how it will be used in the coming years. I will provide further resources to explore this topic. I also want to stress the importance of the inclusion of diversity in the teams that create and work on these technologies, as well as using large datasets to train with (e.g. in healthcare, it is very important that all skin types are included for accurate diagnosis).
Bio
I am a Software Developer with over 17 years of experience. I have worked as a contractor in various fields including medical, legal, charity and ecommerce. I co-founded my business www.furnishful.co.uk in 2016, a website that helps people find items of furniture for their homes. I have a strong interest in all things tech, especially innovations that have very practical applications.
